The pair had initially started dating 2 years ago after he split from his then-wife and fashion writer, Sara Buys.

And it seems as though they were very happy together.

A close friend of his said this of their relationship:

"Tom had been blissfully happy with Alice and is devastated that life can be so cruel."

Steph McGovern, a former BBC presenter also tweeted an emotional tribute upon hearing the tragic news.

"Woah, bit of a shock today hearing about the death of Alice Procope," she wrote. "We worked together as journalists for a while. She was so much fun. Gutted for her family. 42 is no age. #ripAlice."

Another friend, Tom Teodorczuk, also spoke about her, saying "she was a great journalist."

"...[She was] well connected and amazing fun to work with.

"She knew everyone in those days including Boris Johnson. She will be greatly missed. I was so sad to hear of her death, she was so young."

It has been reported that the journalist had been suffering from ongoing medical issues.

And she was diagnosed with cancer and succumbed to the illness just under 2 weeks ago.

The news comes after there have been several complaints about late diagnosis due to COVID-19 being the main priority for healthcare departments.

Since last March, thousands of patients have missed out on important appointments due to the ongoing pandemic and it has led to fears that the UK's National Health Service is going to be severely backed up post-pandemic due to all the other medical issues put on the back burner for now.

Speaking of Procope, a friend described her journey:

"Partly because of Covid, Alice's cancer diagnosis didn't come until last August by when it was too late."

They continued:

"That's what's so really cruel and there will be countless others like her.'"

She leaves behind children Katherine, Wilfred, and Georgia.

May she rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this tragic news.
