The Black Lives Matter movement came as a response to the killing of an unarmed Black man by police officers which became almost an epidemic - and was hugely frightening.

But it's really representative of a much larger issue of racism in the USA.

It seems clear that the difference of experience of day-to-day life between a Black and a white citizen of the USA poses a huge ideological and social problem to the country.

But, recently, the internet witnessed something truly harrowing.

A U.S. Army sergeant saw a Black man he didn't recognize walking through his neighborhood and decided it warranted assault...

And people are understandably horrified by the video.

Facebook

Forty-two-year-old Jonathan Pentland was recorded aggressively confronting the man known as Deandre...

Forcefully shoving him around the street on Monday evening.

Deandre remained calm and said he lived around the area...

Literally just walking through the suburb of Summit.

Although Pentland didn't accept that as an answer...

Facebook

Accusing him of loitering around their home for fifteen minutes.

That's when things took a turn for the worst...

Facebook

The Richland County Sheriff's Office says calls came in describing an altercation going down. They were initially told that Deandre was walking around the area suspiciously...

Eventually, they say neighbors asked Pentland to step in.

Facebook

After the clip went viral, police say they passed their findings to a judge, who decided to bring Pentland in on an arrest warrant.

The Sheriff's Office also says this of the victim...

He apparently has an underlying medical condition and the authorities are working to get him the help he needs.

Pentland ended up getting arrested early Wednesday morning over the altercation.

He has since been booked on 3rd-degree assault and battery charges.

Fort Jackson officials also commented on the viral video saying...

"This type of behavior is not consistent with our Army values and will not be condoned. We have begun our own investigation and are working with the local authorities."

Since the video went viral, other videos have surfaced showing BLM protesters stood outside Pentland's house...

The large group could be seen holding signs and shouting through a megaphone on Wednesday as they stood on the street...

"I'm on your yard!" One woman yelled directly at the house...

Twitter

"We just want to talk, we want to understand some things, that's it," she shouted in the video, as those around her said, "No justice, no peace!"

"What you gonna do? You gonna stay in here every day?" she shouted.

Other clips show dozens more protestors surrounding his house later that day.

Sheriff Leon Lott later admitted that Deandre had been involved in other incidents in the neighborhood just days prior to the video...

Twitter

But said, "none of them justified the assault that occurred."

He didn't go into detail about the incidents Deandre was allegedly involved in...

Twitter

"The first time I saw the video, it was terrible. It was unnecessary," Lott concluded.

Check out the clip below...

"The leaders at Fort Jackson in no way condone the behavior depicted in the video posted recently," said Fort Jackson commander Brig. Gen. Milford Beagle Jr.
