For those of you that might not be aware, we're in the midst of Pride Month - the most fabulous time of the year.
June has, for years now, been the month of Pride.
People across the globe use this month to celebrate the impact that the LGBTQ+ community has had on the world.
Pride is the month wherein people really celebrate being themselves.
Though Pride hasn't always been so positive...
Pride month was initially created to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which saw members of New York's gay community protest and fight for their rights.
At that time, Americans were living under an anti-gay legal system. On the morning of June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, which catered for LGBTQ+ and other minority groups at the time.
This protest would eventually lead to gay liberation.
The modern fight for LGBTQ+ rights in the US began with this riot.
Within 6 months, 2 gay activist organizations were formed in New York and, within just a few years, gay rights organizations were founded across the US and the rest of the world.
For the last fifty years, the full month of June has always been dedicated to celebrating this liberation...
However, as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, things were a little different last year.
But that doesn't mean people aren't celebrating in their own personal ways to show their solidarity with the movement...
And Busy Philipps did just that very recently.
The host kicked off Pride in style, by dedicating a heartfelt post to her twelve-year-old daughter, Birdie.
Writing in the caption, Philipps said this:
"Today is the start of PRIDE MONTH! I have so much pride for this kid and everything they are and do!" the proud mom gushed, sharing a series of selfies with her daughter.
She then went on to explain how Birdie helped out an LGBTQ+ charity last year.
"One incredible thing Birdie did last year (that I would like to brag about right now) is that after seeing all of the beauty products that I was sent by brands that went unused or given away, Birdie decided to start gathering the unopened makeup and hygiene items from me and other influencer types(actors, singers, makeup and hair artists) to donate to the @lalgbtcenter for the queer and trans youth that the Center provides a safe space for."
"Thanks to many of my friends, Birdie was able to donate HUNDREDS of items to the center."
And I'm sure the generous move changed so many lives.
And this year, the family plans to do the same but via T-shirt donations.
It wasn't too long ago when Philipps discussed her daughter's sexuality and pronouns on her podcast "Busy Philipps is Doing Her Best."
"For those of you who are my friends listening at home, this is the first you're hearing that Birdie is gay and out," the mom of two said.
"Birdie told us at 10 years old and ... I mean obviously, I knew that Birdie knew."
Birdie is the eldest child of Philipps and her husband, Marc Silverstein.
The couple also have a 7-year-old daughter called Cricket Pearl.
