Dad Took Son’s Bully Shopping After Finding He Was Homeless | 22 Words

A dad recently decided to take a different approach to deal with his son's bully and instead of confronting him, he took him out shopping to buy him some new clothes after finding out he was homeless.

When Aubrey Fontenot found out that his son was being bullied at school, he wanted to help him deal with the situation as any parent would. So, he decided to sit down and have a talk with the bully, but it didn't go as you would expect...

Fontenot decided to intervene in his son, Jordan's bullying situation after his cellphone was taken. The bully, named Tamarion, had taken Jordan's cell one day and lost it, resulting in him receiving a suspension from school.

Fontenot didn't get mad by the situation, but instead, he simply asked the question of "why?", Understanding Compassion reports. He wondered why a boy so young would want to bully another child of a similar age at school, so he decides to find out.

Fontenot inquired about Tamarion's situation with the school, where they revealed that part of the problem could be that Tamarion's family was homeless.

"They insinuated he was homeless. I was like 'Oh ok I didn't realize that, wow that makes a lot of sense," Aubrey said.

Tamarion's mom then confirmed the situation to Fontenot and he decided that he had to help in any way he could.

"I had to do something," said Fontenot.

The dad took the situation into his own hands and he reached out to Tamarion's parents, asking them if he could take their son on a drive and spend the afternoon with him during his suspension to try and remedy the situation. Tamarion's parents happily agreed and so, they fixed an afternoon for the 2 of them to meet.

During the afternoon, Fontenot spent his time befriending Tamarion to see if he could get him to open up a little bit and although it took some time, it eventually worked.

"I came with the energy that he was ready to receive, cause a lot of times, just because you want to talk to me, doesn't mean I want to talk to you. You know? But, I think he was ready to talk to me. He knew that I cared. He saw it in my eyes," Aubrey said to ABC 13.

Tamarion eventually opened up about why he was bullying Jordan at school, revealing that he was also being teased and bullied because of his frequently old and dirty clothes. He said he bullied Jordan because that's how his own bullies make him feel.

After hearing Tamarion's reason, Fontenot decided to take him to the mall where he brought the child some new clothes and a pair of shoes. In a video shared on Twitter by Fontenot, the pair can then be seen returning from their shopping trip, laughing and singing in the car.

Alongside the video, he wrote: "Spent some time with my son's school bully yesterday... just to dig a little deeper on 'why?'... Come to find out he was being bullied for not having clean clothes n clean shoes... I asked, why? Just to find out that his family is currently homeless. I had to do something."

Following the trip, Tamarion and Jordan reunited and although it was a little awkward between them at first they were soon able to resolve their problems.

But, Fontenot didn't stop there! He might have helped Tamarion but now he wanted to help his family too.

So, he set up a GoFundMe page for the family, in the hope of raising them some money to get back on their feet.

"We have no clue what these children are going through these days because a lot of us just don't care… And this is not an uncommon story for a lot of people … so I spent a lot of my day yesterday shopping and teaching this young man about self-respect. Integrity. Morals. Confidence. And other things that consist of going from a troubled youth to a great man," Fontenot wrote on the page.

With the help of Fontenot, the page managed to surpass its target of $7,000 and raised a staggering $31,663 to help Tamarion and his family find a home. So heartwarming!
