'Deadpool 3' Confirmed To Be an R-Rated MCU Movie | 22 Words

Deadpool remains one of the most popular franchises of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Who doesn't love the foul-mouthed frontman played to perfection by Ryan Reynolds?

When it first hit our screens, the slightly offbeat, R-rated superhero movie became a huge hit for Fox, despite its low budget. immediately after the studio took a risk on it, then greenlit the sequel, which was released to similar financial and critical success.

But since Disney bought 20th Century Fox back in 2019, many have been concerned about the future of the franchise. Deadpool is unapologetically NSFW, complete with swear words, sex scenes, and a ton of violence. Not really the marks of Disney's wheelhouse. In fact, after the purchase, the third part of the franchise was put on hold.

While many suspected Disney wouldn't throw away such an obvious money-spinner. But many were concerned there would be a dramatic change in tone, in order to help fit the movie into the strictly PG-13 Disney universe.

But today there's been an exciting announcement. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed that Deadpool 3 will be an MCU and R-rated film, as per Collider. And even more excitingly? It's currently in development.

Screenwriters Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux are currently working on the script, meaning we'll have the same signature dialogue we've come to expect from the Deadpool movies. Ryan Reynolds is also overseeing the script, so fans can rest assured there will be elements of his magic touch, too.

Filming isn't set to start until 2022 at the earliest, so we'll be lucky if we see the movie on our screens by 2023. But it's not like the MCU crew are sleeping. In fact, there are five movies set to be released before the newest Deadpool offering - Thor 4 and Spider Man 3, which are currently in production, and Doctor Strange 2, Black Panther 2, and Captain Marvel 2, which are set to start filming before the year is out.

"It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan's overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We've got a number of things we've already announced that we now have to make, but it's exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life." Feige said.

So when Deadpool 3 does happen, it won't just be tangentially related to the original movies - it will be part of the MCU canon. We're already excited - will you be tuning in?
