On November 12th 2019, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Warner Bros TV was developing a Friends reunion for HBO Max that would feature the whole cast and creators returning.
But recently things have been looking a bit rocky for the reunion.
On May 13th, 2021 a teaser trailer was released officially announcing Friends: The Reunion also known as The One Where They Got Back Together and is scheduled for release on May 27 2021 on HBO Max. A list of special guests was also released including the likes of David Beckham, Justin Bieber, Kit Harrington, Mindy Kaling and Malala Yousafzai (not a line up we'd ever imagine!).
Many have been expressing their disappointment over the news of James Corden hosting the reunion and the distinct lack of fan-favourite character Mike Hannigan, played by A-List Actor Paul Rudd.
Here's the full story...
Now, Friends is arguably one of the most successful sitcoms of all time.
via: GettyWe were introduced to the Friends gang back in 1994, when Ross (David Schwimmer), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Chandler (Matthew Perry), Monica, (Courteney Cox), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), and Joey (Matt LeBlanc) first burst onto our screens.
Of course, it was an instant hit...
via: GettyCreated by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, the comedy follows the friends, who live in the same New York apartment block, as they together navigate through the turbulent years of their late twenties.
And it didn't take long for fans to become incredibly attached to these characters. The show truly made us feel like a member of the Friends gang, even when we were conflicted over whether Ross and Rachel really were on a break or not... FYI they totally were on a break.
The final episode aired in September 2004...
It was an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least.Monica and Chandler were starting a family, Phoebe was newly married, Rachel had a new job in Paris... As with a lot of friendships, the gang had grown apart and were embarking upon their separate journeys.
Oh, and Rachel got off the plane!Fans rejoiced as Ross and Rachel finally put their differences aside and got back together.
But, fifteen years on from Rachel getting off the plane...
We never found out what happened to the gang.
Did Rachel and Ross stay together? Would Monica and Chandler ever get divorced? Did Joey ever make it as a big actor?
Over the years, there have been a few low-key reunions and a lot of false hope...
Apart from the occasional reunion on talk shows, fans have had their fair share of disappointments when it comes to waiting for a Friends reunion.
Even the cast has confirmed in the past that a reunion is incredibly unlikely.interview with the Mail Online. He added, "People want to know what happened to them. But it was about a finite period in a person’s life after college, before you settle down and start a family."
So, yeah... Things haven't been looking too great on the reunion front.
Well, the news we were all waiting for arrived in February last year...
All of the cast posted the same throwback picture on Instagram confirming the news of an official reunion. Many fans hoped that the reunion would be scripted but sadly, the reunion will simply be a sit-down with the entire cast and crew to just catch up and reminisce on the good times. It still sounds brilliant, though!
The reunion was originally scheduled to air in May 2020 on HBO Max...
Along with the channel releasing all ten seasons of the sitcom for viewers to watch on-demand.
But bad news wasn't far around the corner...
Due to the global pandemic, the Friends reunion was called off "indefinitely," just a week before filming was set to take place.
But it's true when they say, good things come to those who wait!
Because it was announced earlier this month that the much-anticipated reunion episode of the popular comedy will be aired on May 27th.
And on Wednesday, a trailer for the one-off unscripted special was shared on social media by the gang...
Showing the stars walking around the original set at Warner Bros Studios in California, taking part in that trivia game, and doing a table read of well-known scenes; including Phoebe reenacting her spotting Monica and Chandler kissing from the fifth series.
The trailer also showed a few celebrity guests taking part in the fun, including the likes of Cara Delevinge and Justin Bieber.
There's absolutely no doubt how excited fans are since the trailer dropped...
But there's a few things they aren't so impressed with.

Fans were also frustrated at the lack of actors who had been special guests during the show's decade run.
paul rudd, george clooney, winona ryder, julia roberts, freddie prinze jr, ben stiller, susan sarandon, danny devito, bruce willis, brad pitt etc were all on friends and yet all they could get was the dude from game of thrones and justin bieber for the reunion.....— frankie (@shawnsguster) May 13, 2021
But overall, the feedback has been very exciting!
With a few people feeling the opposite...
Okay not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but anywho... Am I the only one who is upset that the friends reunion isn’t gonna be like an installment to the series but more of a looking back nostalgic vibe show with the cast... Or is it just me?#FriendsReunion— TeamCoreData (@TeamSCoreData) May 19, 2021
