Preschool Friends Who Battled Cancer Together Reunite | 22 Words

Two preschool friends who met at a hospital and battled cancer together have finally reunited for the first time.

Payson Altice and Mack Porter first met and made friends earlier this year when they were both sadly admitted to the Phoenix Children's Hospital as they fought cancer.

The 3-year-olds became such good friends that when Mac, who was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) in January, was finally able to leave the hospital, all he wanted was to go back to the "doctor house" to see his best friend, Payson.

Speaking with Today Parents, Mack's mom, Dani Porter explained: "Every morning, his first question was, 'When can I play with Payson?'"

Well, last month the moment that both 3-year-olds had been waiting for arrived.

Now both in remission and able to leave the hospital, Mack and Payson reunited on July 21st in a heartwarming moment that was caught on camera.

The emotional video shows Mack presenting Payson with a bouquet of flowers that he chose himself before they hugged and began dancing together in Payson's kitchen.

Mack spent the morning setting up for the reunion and picking out toys he thought Payson, who was battling B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, would love Today reports.

Dani explained that Mack and Payson became friends after she noticed a "spunky" little girl walking down the hall with giant mylar balloons.

"I just knew Mack would like her," Dani said. So, later that day Dani decided to approach Payson's mom, Traci Barrett, to ask if they would be interested in taking a walk together.

Dani explained that they had little choice when it came to meeting others as "the playroom and the family room were closed because of COVID."

The walk turned out to be one of the best decisions for the children as from then on, they bonded over their love for Pepper Pig and made the best of friends.

"Payson was so isolated. It was so hard to meet people because of the pandemic. She was asking for new toys every 5 minutes," Traci told Today Parents. "And then Mack came along."

The pair soon became inseparable as Payson introduced Mack to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, while Mack taught Payson some dance moves he'd learned from his older sisters.

"Traci and I were both teary watching them just be kids," Dani said. "As soon as Mack got up from his nap he was like, 'I need to find Payson and bring her a present.'"

"It's just a really special relationship."
