There's absolutely no doubt that Gina Carano has had a rather turbulent few months due to the backlash she's faced for some very disturbing tweets and Instagram posts...
But it still seems as though Disney is willing to give her some perks despite firing her from the Star Wars franchise...
It has recently been announced that Carano has been put up for a prestigious award in the Best Supporting Actress category and you'll never believe which one it is...
Have a look to see what people are saying about the entire fiasco.
Now, you may know Gina Carano for many things...
As she's had a pretty accomplished career!
Her talents first started out in mixed martial arts (MMA) and fitness before she made the move into the world of acting.
And since then, she's had parts in some major blockbusters...
Including Fast and Furious 6, Deadpool, and Haywire.
But her most notable role was from Diney'sThe Mandalorian.
Her fame skyrocketed when she took on the role of Cara Dune.
When it first hit screens, The Mandalorian completely won over viewers...
And the original sci-fi spin-off series, set in the Star Wars universe, drew in significant praise from fans.
The series is set 5 years after the events of Return of the Jedi.
Directed by Bryce Dallas Howard, who is best known for playing Claire Dearing in Jurassic World, The Mandalorian offers Star Wars fans a tantalizing new live-action spin-off of the beloved franchise.
And it was the first of its kind on the Disney +.
The Mandolorian well and truly keeps the franchise alive - offering what many are describing as a "gritter" take on the universe.
However, the success of the show may have been tarnished by Gina Carano's recent antics.
Earlier this year, things became pretty heated on social media over some rather controversial stuff being posted on the actress's social media accounts.
Calls for her to be fired started pretty early on...
And she didn't set herself up well at all when she shared conspiracy-focused memes and tweets from her account.
Not only that, but she also liked numerous posts disparaging Black Lives Matter...
We need to clean up the election process so we are not left feeling the way we do today.— Gina Carano 🕯 (@ginacarano) November 5, 2020
Put laws in place that protect us against voter fraud.
Investigate every state.
Film the counting.
Flush out the fake votes.
Make Voter Fraud end in 2020.
Fix the system. 🇺🇸
And the use of the correct pronouns.
And it didn't stop there...
From ridiculing mask mandates, to emphasizing (without hard proof) that there was "voter fraud" going on at the elections, Carano ruffled more than a few feathers!
She also compared being a Republican to being a "Jew during the Holocaust" on Instagram.
Problematic isn't even the word for disgusting comparisons such as this one.
Well, Carano's actions soon caught up with her as it was announced last month she had been sacked from The Mandalorian and any future Star Wars productions.
A statement by a Lucasfilm spokesperson explained last month:
"Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future."
"Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable."
Well, it didn't take long for Carano to speak out about her sacking.
In a controversial interview with Ben Shaprio, she accused Disney of bullying her.
"I've been through so much, and I've seen so much now, clearly, of the bullying that's been taking place, and I saw it before. I'm not the only one that's ever been bullied by this company, and I know that so deeply."
"I could share a story which would turn things around in the media but I can't because it would sell out a friend... Everyone is afraid of losing their job."
Once Disney "point their guns at you" it's "only a matter of time," she claimed.
Is Disney really as innocent and inclusive as it seems?
Well, the CEO of the multi-billion dollar entertainment company spoke out about the drama surrounding Carano's sacking.
Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Chapek addressed Carano's dismissal from The Mandalorian.
And the executive was asked about the situation during an annual shareholders' meeting.
Asked by a caller during the Q&A portion if Disney had a "blacklist," insinuating Carano, by name, was targeted for her conservative politics...
Chapek responded that he does not see Disney as "left-leaning or right-leaning" and that Disney stands "for values that are universal: Values of respect, values of decency, values of integrity and values of inclusion."
He went on to explain:
"And we seek to have the content that we make reflective of the rich diversity of the world we live in. And I think that's a world we should all live in harmony and peace."
But even though this is what Chapek claimed, why did they go on to recommend Carano for an Emmy award?
Disney's For Your Consideration poster for The Mandalorian has suggested her for a "supporting actress" award at the upcoming ceremony, for her role as Cara Dune.
And of course, people were not impressed by the news...
