Dog Always Smiling Due To Rare Condition Is Looking for Home | 22 Words

A dog with a rare condition that makes him look like he is always smiling is on the search for a permenant home.

Meet Jasper, a Chihuahua mix, that has gone viral due to his smile.

Jasper, who has a rare condition that causes him to constantly have a grin on his face, currently lives at the Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento, California, but he's on the search for his forever home.

His condition is caused by nerve damage that prompts facial expressions mimicking a smile, CBS Sacramento reports.

Jasper's facial nerves pull back his muscles resulting in his ears perking up which in turn gives him a constant smile.

Haley Waugh, public information coordinator at Front Street Animal Shelter spoke with the outlet and explained that Jasper "has some neurological issues going on."

"I think everyone that sees him just instantly smiles," Waugh said. "It's kind of the first thing you notice when you see him is he has a big old smile on his face."

The little pup went viral after the shelter shared a clip of him to their Facebook page explaining that they are trying to raise money for pets like him who need care.

Alongside the video of Jasper, the shelter wrote: "He looks happy on the outside, but that's not how he feels :( Jasper's condition causes his facial muscles to pull back and twitch constantly, and he has kidney problems. We are intent on trying to give him a happy life, but the tests and treatment will be very expensive. That's why we're raising funds for sweet Jasper and the many other animals in need of care at http://gofundme.com/.../give-life-and-happiness-to.... Can you help? He'll also need a home once he's feeling better, so check out the video to learn how to adopt him when that day comes!"

The shelter opened a GoFundMe page in the hope that people will donate funds to help them keep providing care to animals like Jasper.

At the time of writing, the page has raised more than $42,000!

So far, the shelter estimates that Jasper's test and treatments will cost around $4,000, though that could increase.

"So far it's looking like it will be around $4,000, but that could add up to more depending on how much treatment he needs and it could be ongoing," Waugh said. "He might not have the most time left but we're going to do whatever we can to make the best of it and give him as much time here as we can as comfortably as possible."

We hope that Jasper and all of his friends find their forever homes!
