A video showing a man attempting to hit on a teenage girl as she sat alone in a public space has demonstrated why the Me Too movement is so crucial for the lives of women all over the world.
The movement, initiated by Tarana Burke, has been raising awareness of sexual harassment and assault experienced by women for over a decade now.
The hashtag #MeToo was then quick to circulate at the start of the digital era, thus sparking a vital conversation about sexual violence and injustice.
Using the hashtag, thousands of women from all across the world have been opening up about their own experiences of sexual assault and misconduct.

However, despite the undeniable progress made since the birth of the cause, women and young girls alike continue to face sexual harassment in their day-to-day lives.
And one of the latest to come forward is eighteen-year-old Kiarra Jobe.
Kiarra, a writer and artist, was sitting alone in a hotel courtyard when a stranger approached her to ask if the chair next to her was free.
Kiarra, clearly under the impression that he'd take the chair back to his own table, told him that it was free...
But, to her surprise and horror, he proceeded to sit down at her table.
The man, who is believed to be in his thirties, then attempted to start a conversation with Kiarra, clearly oblivious to her nervous facial expression and body language.
He could be heard asking for her name and how she was, to which Kiarra awkwardly shuffled in her seat and lied that she was on a live stream.
But another thing he remained oblivious to was the teenager's smartphone recording every moment of his heinous attempt to flirt.
Kiarra uploaded the video to her Instagram account where it spread like wildfire across all social platforms - and to say people being disgusted would be an understatement.
The video resonated with so many women...
Men truly have a bizarre ownership mentality towards women.— Cipher of the Golden Spatula (@snarkylicious) April 29, 2021
Raise your hand if this creepy crawly crap happened to you when you were a teenager. He only leaves when she says she's doing a live feed. This stuff happens a bazillion times a day and it sets the tone of what young women and girls begin to expect from men.— Victoria Brownworth (@VABVOX) April 30, 2021
What woman has never felt like this girl? My stomach hurt with hers.— Snowflake GenXpecial (@chasingsunny16) April 29, 2021
This is so upsetting. Men that do this 100% know exactly what they're doing. There is no confusion. He saw her alone and forced himself into get space despite the fact that she made it absolutely clear both in body language and get actual words that she didn't want him there.— The Lamityville Horror: Awake at 5AM!! Why was I holding my breath the entire video? I know this stress.— Ms.Carasco, M.S. (@mscarasco_live) April 29, 2021
My heart was racing with hers. Why can't people read the room? She was obviously not interested in talking to him. Sadly I and many women have experienced this same type of situation.— Jenn X (@groovychick1973) April 29, 2021
I know that look, that feeling. Bless her. ☹️— Anastasia Pepper ❁ (@StasiaPepper) April 30, 2021
Uuuuugh, I could feel her pain so acutely. It's not even that men can't read social cues; they just don't care. I hate it and I'm tired of all of us being made uncomfortable just for existing in a public space.— Diermina 🌸 (@DierminaArt) April 30, 2021
That is beyond creepy! I'm glad she's safe.— Captain Spider-Chap (@chap_spider) April 30, 2021
Jesus this is so stressful to watch, I remember dealing with this exact bullshit behavior when I was a teenager.— Furry Forest Witch (@CattieGrace) May 1, 2021
Do we need empowerment training for young women or respectful behaviour/consent training for young men or both?? Fed up with this!!— LordV (@SarahVaci) April 30, 2021
She's like an actual baby girl, kudos for standing your ground though 👍— dodrug (@watchunderscore) May 1, 2021
Kiarra explained in a follow-up video that she spoke to a member of staff at the hotel...
Who told her that they knew the man involved and would "speak with him."
