Matthew Perry Announces Devastating News | 22 Words

Just days after the highly-anticipating Friends reunion, Matthew Perry has announced some devastating news regarding his personal life...

And fans have been left heartbroken for the troubled actor.

Here's why...

Now, there's no denying that we know Matthew Perry best for one thing and one thing only...

And that's for his iconic role as funny-man Chandler Bing in Friends.

Of course, Friends is one of the most successful sitcoms of all time...

And we were introduced to the Friends gang back in 1994, when Ross (David Schwimmer), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Chandler (Matthew Perry), Monica, (Courteney Cox), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), and Joey (Matt LeBlanc) first burst onto our screens.

It was an instant hit...

Created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, the comedy follows the friends, who live in the same New York apartment block, as they together navigate through the turbulent years of their late twenties.

The final episode aired in September 2004...

Warner Bros.

And we watched through our tears as the gang said their final goodbyes to the apartment we had all grown to know and love for the past decade.

It was an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least.

Monica and Chandler were starting a family, Phoebe was newly married, Rachel had a new job in Paris... As with a lot of friendships, the gang had grown apart and were embarking upon their separate journeys.

Oh, and Rachel got off the plane!

Fans rejoiced as Ross and Rachel finally put their differences aside and got back together.

But, fifteen years on from Rachel getting off the plane...

We never found out what happened to the gang.

Did Rachel and Ross stay together? Would Monica and Chandler ever get divorced? Did Joey ever make it as a big actor?

Over the years, there have been a few low-key reunions and a lot of false hope...

But apart from the occasional reunion on talk shows, fans have had their fair share of disappointments when it comes to waiting for a Friends reunion.

Well, the news we were all waiting for arrived in February last year...

All of the cast posted the same throwback picture on Instagram confirming the news of an official, unscripted reunion.

The reunion was originally scheduled to air in May 2020 on HBO Max but due to the global pandemic, the reunion was called off "indefinitely," just a week before filming was set to take place.

But it's true when they say, good things come to those who wait!

Because the reunion finally aired on HBO Max on May 27th last week.

The 2-hour long episode was what every Friends fan in the world had hoped for.

Consisting of table reads, incredibly emotional reunions, revisiting the old Los Angeles set, the reminiscing of fond memories, and a whole range of star-studded guests... the episode was an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least!

The gang were clearly very overwhelmed to be back in the exact same set in which they worked for over a decade...

And it was revealed that this was the first time in seventeen years that all 5 of the stars had been back in the same room together.

How is that even possible?!

But the episode proved how the bond between the group remains to be just as strong to this very day...

And the chemistry between all of them was undeniable... oh, and not to mention Jennifer and David admitting to having crushes on each other in the first season!

However, fans were quick to pick up on one thing...

And that was the wellbeing of Matthew Perry.

Now, we all know that Matthew has dealt with a lot of personal issues over the years...

Including battles with addiction and depression which he struggled with while filming the early seasons of Friends.

Fans noticed during the reunion that the actor was rather quiet in comparison to the rest of the gang...

And that when he did speak, he did so with slurred speech.

Matthew's slurred speech was quickly explained, however.

Speaking to The Sun, a source said:

"Matthew turned up at the reunion and members of his team said he had an emergency tooth procedure that day. This was said to impact his wellbeing and also how he was feeling. Obviously, no one wants to film after a procedure, but it happened. The feeling was one of huge sympathy for Matthew, especially in recent days, given how people reacted online."

It's a pity that Matthew wasn't feeling great during the filming of the reunion...

And now, a week on, it seems as if even more bad luck is on the horizon for the actor.

The Friends star announced earlier today some devastating news...

Matthew announced today that he and his fiancΓ©e, twenty-nine-year-old Molly Hurwitz, have brought their relationship to an end.

As per PEOPLE, the actor said in a statement:

"Sometimes things just don't work out and this is one of them. I wish Molly the best."

The couple, who had a twenty-two-year age gap, reportedly began dating in 2018...

And they became engaged in November 2020.

"I decided to get engaged," Matthew told PEOPLE at the time.

"Luckily, I happened to be dating the greatest woman on the face of the planet at this time."

We hope both Matthew and Molly are coping during this difficult period!
