Michael K. Williams Cause of Death Confirmed | 22 Words

Michael K. Williams, best known for playing The Wire's Omar Little, died earlier on in the month. Now, his cause of death has been confirmed.

Williams shot to fame for his iconic role as Omar Little in The Wire. The character of Omar is an infamous stick-up man who often robs drug dealers. When people see him coming, they run, warning others of Omar's presence.

But the character is nothing without the actor, and it was William's who made the fictional character so powerful and memorable. Even Barack Obama described The Wire as his favourite program, and Little as his favourite character.

However, it wasn't just The Wire that Williams is remembered for.

His first role came in the 1995 film, Mugshot, however Williams is best remembered for his roles in Boardwalk Empire, Bessie, Law & Order, 12 Years A Slave, and The Road, amongst many many more.

However, Williams life had not always been easy and he struggled with drug addiction for a long time.

Speaking about his drug use, Williams said he often found himself doing drugs in 'strange places with strange people'. He also said that he was playing with fire.

More specifically, the acting legend said:

I was playing with fire. It was just a matter of time before I got caught and my business ended up on the cover of a tabloid or I went to jail or, worse, I ended up dead.

Initially, it was reported by TMZ that he had died from a suspected drug overdose, now those reports have been confirmed.

Williams died after overdosing on a combination of heroin, cocaine, fentanyl and p-fluorofentanyl, the New York Chief Medical Examiner confirmed.

The 54-year-old was found unconscious and unresponsive by his nephew at his home in New York back on September 6.

It has also been confirmed by the Chief Medical Examiner's office confirmed that Williams' death was accidental.

Following his unexpected and early death, tributes began pouring in from a host of famous faces, including film director Spike Lee and author Stephen King. King described Williams as "fantastically talented".

Creator of The Wire, David Simon, also paid tribute, describing Williams as "a fine man and a rare talent".

The acting world truly lost a great too early with the passing of Michael K Williams.
