An officer who shot and killed a woman during the Capitol Riot won't be charged for his actions after both the US Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia and the Metropolitan Police Department's Internal Affairs Division decided against it.
After the news was announced, comments poured in...
And it seems as though most people agree with the ruling.
Read on for all the details.
Now, the events from January 6th still haunt us to this very day.

As a joint session of Congress convened to formally count the Electoral College votes and certify Joe Biden's election win, lawmakers were forced to shelter in place and evacuate as pro-Trump rioters broke into the U.S Capitol Building.
Hundreds of rioters forced their way into the prestigious building...

The rioters took over several of the rooms and chambers in the building...

From this, more violence ensued...

The scenes shocked people all over the globe...

From the get-go, there were calls for Donald Trump to intervene.

The former president was repeatedly urged to appear on national television to order his supporters to stand down.
He instead issued a series of half-hearted tweets...

Trump's behavior resulted in him being banned from all social media platforms...
And, as control was regained in the Capitol and the cleanup began, an impeachment investigation was launched into the former president for the role he played in the riots. He was acquitted yet again for his actions.
It's been an unbelievable past couple of months...
And, as the months have trickled by, more and more rioters have been named, shamed, and reprimanded for their actions.
Security footage from inside the Capitol during the attack was presented at Trump's impeachment trial...
And it was nothing short of harrowing.
A senior aide said of the never-before-seen security footage:
House managers will show new Capitol security footage today. "We will be using footage never seen before that shows a view of the Capitol that is quite extraordinary and a view of the attack that has never been public before. You will see for the first time," a senior aide says.— Geoff Bennett (@GeoffRBennett) February 10, 2021
"We will be using footage never seen before that shows a view of the Capitol that is quite extraordinary and a view of the attack that has never been public before. You will see for the first time."
Senators also reacted to the surfaced footage.
Senators on both sides of the aisle were visibly affected by what they saw:
"It was really horrifying what happened. You know, I think the House team really put forth a very strong connecting of the dots. I don't see how you can watch any of this and listen to their presentation and not conclude that Trump bears tremendous responsibility for what happened," Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, told reporters.
In total, 5 people died in the riots that day...
Including 1 police officer, and countless other injuries were reported.
One of the deaths caught on video was the death of Ashli Babbitt, an Air Force veteran from California.
The thirty-five-year-old took part in breaking through the doors, as officers used furniture to barricade themselves between the hallway and the Speaker's Lobby.
However, they abandoned their position after "members of the mob attempted to break through the doors by striking them and breaking the glass with their hands, flagpoles, helmets, and other objects..."
And as they continued to get attacked and more people were breaking through the door into the Speaker's Lobby, an officer fired a round which hit Babbitt in the shoulder.
There were many videos taken at the scene which showed her falling to the ground after she was shot.
She was treated at the scene and later taken to hospital where she died.
After the incident, the officer was put on administrative leave.
An investigation into the shooting was administered, with both the US Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia and the Metropolitan Police Department's Internal Affairs Division looking into the details of the outcome and checking to see if the officer had violated any federal laws.
On Wednesday, the DOJ said this:
BREAKING: The DOJ will not pursue criminal charges against the U.S. Capitol Police officer involved in the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Ashli Babbitt on January 6th. pic.twitter.com/xrKjfrJGzV— Alex Salvi (@alexsalvinews) April 14, 2021
"Specifically, the investigation revealed no evidence to establish that, at the time the officer fired a single shot at Ms. Babbitt, the officer did not reasonably believe that it was necessary to do so in self-defense or in defense of the Members of Congress and others evacuating the House Chamber."
However, a lawyer for Babbitt's family said they disagreed with the verdict and would continue to pursue the civil case.
"The actual evidence is this: the officer shot an unarmed woman who was not an immediate threat to him or any Member of Congress," their attorney, Terry Roberts, said in a statement. "That is inconsistent with any claim of self-defense or the defense of others, period."
She knew what she was doing when she traveled to Washington to take part in such an event. The risks were as clear as daylight.
Let's just hope justice is served for everyone else who took part in the riot.
