TMZ has reported that Britney Spears has independently decided who she wants as her lawyer to put an end to her conservatorship, with her attorney agreeing and ready to appear in court today arguing that she has the right to the lawyer of her choice.
It's well known that Britney recently signed a legal document stating her desire to hire the law firm of Greenberg Traurig, LLP to represent her in her courageous effort to get rid of her dad Jamie Spears from the long-lived abusive conservatorship - the first step of many to attempt to end the conservatorship forever.
Britney has had her heart set on hiring former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart, who represents a range of celebrity clients, including Ben Affleck and Steven Spielberg.
Multiple sources have told TMZ that Rosengart has agreed to the proposition and will appear remotely during a court hearing today, asking for the judge's permission to appoint him as Britney's lawyer.
The only catch is that Britney cannot sign contracts of any substance without the approval of her conservator, Jamie Spears, the man she's fighting to boot.
Rosengart will reportedly argue that Britney has a constitutional right to the lawyer of her choice, just as defendants in criminal cases have the constitutional right to an attorney.
The pop star is entitled to due process, which subsequently includes the right to a competent lawyer, and a judge saying that Rosengart doesn't have legal rights to represent her would be a little bit out of line. He'll even argue that it's absurd for Jamie Spears to have the power to disapprove of Britney's choice because the purpose of the representation is to get him out of the conservatorship...
The conservatorship has been an ongoing battle for Britney for the past thirteen years of her life and she's well and truly ready for the nightmare to end without having to partake in medical evaluations.
We support you, Britney!
