But one certainly wouldn't want to encounter a wild big cat due to their territorial and aggressive natures.

But there's no denying how beautiful they are...

And this is one of the reasons why big cats are sadly sold illegally around the world for their fur and other illegal trades.

According to the BBC, nearly half of all cat species are threatened with extinction, and the illegal wildlife trade is driving species like tigers to the brink.

Our desire to have these big cats as pets is not healthy...


Wild cat species - both big and small - require special licenses to be kept as pets in the U.S. and these licenses are not easy to obtain.

Fortunately, this has helped to control the number of wild cats sold as pets around the world.

But these beautiful animals are still sold illegally...


Many states here in the U.S allow big cats to be kept as pets and people tend to abuse the licensing of these animals to get them into the country.

They are extremely difficult to manage, especially when they become fully grown adults.

Pet cats are domesticated for a reason, while big cats are wild and pretty much impossible to domesticate.

And seeing a big cat on the loose is not an ideal encounter...

But it still happens from time to time.

And one wild cat encounter has gone viral this week...

A tiger was spotted in a Houston neighborhood on Sunday night.

And quickly went viral on Twitter.

It was walking down Ivy Wall Drive at about 8pm.

With one resident approaching the animal with a gun.

The man appears to be shouting at the tiger's owner.

"Get the f–k back inside. F–k you and your f–king tiger."

The owner also appears to reply.

"I'll get him, I'll get him."

The neighbors seem as perturbed as we would be...

"There is a freaking Bengal tiger roaming in this yard and this dude needs to be careful."

"What the heck?"

"Why is there a tiger?"

It's believed after the standoff, the owner of the tiger did get back control.

Eventually getting the tiger back into his residence.

The incident has been reported to the police.

Though it's not known if the tiger's owner will face any charges...
