Toys 'R' Us has just revealed some promising news about its stores here in the U.S.
And people are beyond excited. Here are all the details...
We were all Toys 'R' Us kids...
No matter how old you are, we've all experienced the magic and total chaos of the iconic and beloved toy store chain.
This includes the devastating decision to close its doors back in 2018.
It's still painful.
But it looks like there's some good news on the horizon for the toy store...
And people are beyond excited...
That's right, Toys 'R' Us is making a comeback this year!
On March 16, brand management company WHP Global announced that they have taken over Tru Kids, which is their parent company.
WHP reportedly plans to open a number of Toys 'R' Us stores ahead of the holidays.
Yehuda Shmidman, chairman and chief executive officer of WHP, says it could come in the form of flagship stores, pop-up shops, airport locations, or mini-stores inside other retailers' shops.
"There are so many malls that will no longer be in the future, so we don't need to be there," Shmidman said.
"But we could be in malls that do have traffic. … So we really have an opportunity not just to capture that experience for toys that people are yearning for, but also capture where [people] want to shop. That will be very interesting post-Covid."
According to market research company NPD Group Inc., overall U.S. toy sales surged sixteen percent last year, during the height of the pandemic.

"We're in the brand business, and Toys R Us is the single most credible, trusted, and beloved toy brand in the world," Shmidman says. "We're coming off a year where toys are just on fire. ... And for Toys R Us, the U.S. is really a blank canvas."
After Toys R Us filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September 2017, Tru Kids stepped in.
After this, they attempted to revive the iconic toy store by opening 2 pop-up locations. Unfortunately, they closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Even Target powered the Toys 'R' Us website for a short time. But outside of the U.S. is a different story...

More than seven-hundred Toys 'R' Us stores outside of the United States are still open, and reports state they still make over $2 billion in global retail sales per year.
What incredible news!
Looks like we don't have to grow up after all.
